Computer softwares: Plugins

A Plugin (VST, VST3 for Windows or AU for OSX) is a little software that cab "apply" an FX to your guitar signal.

There is a wide variety of audio Plugins going from FX like Reverb, compressor, Modulation FX like Chorus, Flanger, EQ, Distortions...

An IR convolver plugin can load your IR file and "apply" it to your guitar signal.

To use those, you need:

  • A computer
  • A low-latency (less 2ms) Audio interface
  • A plugin host (some are free: see Generalities section).

Note that if you already have a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) like Cubase, Ableton, Logic, Garage Band, Reaper, Cakewalk, Pro Tools... It usually enables you to use plugins... Unless you have the free version that can be limited plugin wise.

There are plenty to choose from (from free to expansive ones)
