Fishman AURA

Sunday 19 January 2020

The Fishman AURA is the first IR pedal for acoustic. Fishman has the patent for that technology.

They have a complete database of IRs using their own pickups (the Matrix I guess). You can download any of these IR (in proprietary format) and load it into the pedal via their software.

The IRs are usually dry (short) and sound best with 50% blend setting.

With Yamaha they are the only company that sells a pickup with onboard IR convolver (The Ellipse Aura and the AURA Pro onboard preamp).

They also have a long-term relationship with Martin & Co and Fender for whom they developped onboard IR convolvers.

UPDATE: Larry Fishman said in an interview on Aaron short’s channel that he did not like the Aura Image Technology to be reduced to IR and indeed in the very case of Aura it’s more complex than that. The Aura technology is said to handle the low end ith IIR biquad filters that enables to have shorter FIR filter to handle the mids and high end.
Personally I find this extremely difficult to do. (Actually I have never been able to do it right)

Also the Aura DSP electronics(at one point blackfins) is one of only that can work reasonably long on battery. It also provides EQ and compressors on the F1+ preamps for example.

This is a fixed IR pedal: You ca not capture your own guitar IR with it. You have to rely on Fishman own IR database. You can send your guitar to Fishman to have them make it.
